I see different versions of it everywhere and I'm intrigued. Is it really as good as they say? And are all mineral makeup companies equal? Which company has shown to be better? Do they really do a good job of concealing? It's a bit confusing.

A lot of people, including celebrity makeup artists, rave about mineral makeup. It's especially good if you don't always get around to washing your face at night (easier on your skin than normal foundations that can clog pores).
Also, part of the appeal of mineral makeup is that the minerals reflect light and make the skin look more radiant.
Mineral makeup is also appealing because it contains fewer preservatives, so it's good for sensitive skin types.
Here are a few brands to try:

Thanks so much for your reply. I was also wondering, what is the difference between the expensive vs. inexpensive brands of mineral makeup?

I love the bare escentuals line and you can find great deals on QVC (they just did a TSV on it) but they have starter kits which are great b/c you only need a small amount to last you a long time. The foundation covers great and will also work as a concealer with a small brush.

Usually it's the quality of the minerals they are using and also the other ingredients in the product. It's worth trying samples of a variety to see what really works best for you. Sometimes the less expensive brands work better and sometimes you can really tell the difference with the more expensive ones.

I love mineral make for many reasons...... for me the standard for finding a "good" mineral make up or anything for that matter is all about the ingredients and the performance. Most mineral make-ups have ingredients in the bizmuth family which is not something that has any positive relationship to beautiful healthy skin. Check this ingredient out on line and you'll get the picture. It's usually a bi-product of the lead industry. Also, it's good to choose one without starches as bacteria feeds off starch which is not the best ingredient for anything going on your skin. I like the companies alima cosmetics or larenim. They both have web-sites. I've also found a vareity of new lines showing up in the natural food stores which is great as you can easily try them. If you're wanting to make a good choice for the long term well being of your skin...... educate yourself about ingredients.... it really is what makes all the difference.

stick with the good brans like professional "Jane Iredale" or "Bare Escentuals".
They provide a great coverage.
Mosat important try to apply less at first. tap the brush before it touches your face. You can always add more coverage just by runing you brush all-over your face once more.
Also make sure that your face is not "wet" from the moisturizer. Let the moisturizer absorb and then go!

one of the main ingredients in bare escentuals is bismuth. if you have sensitive skin then don't use it. the bismuth made me break out in a rash and itch for days.

yes.... it's true with bare escentuals as well as Jane Iredale.... they both contain bismuth which is worth a google. I don't think that's it's in everything in the iredale line but enough that it wasn't the right thing for me to use or to recommend...... it's just that there is no reason to use it as there are options..... so way put something on your skin that in the long term is not benefiting it? Makes no sense to me......

I've tried about ten different brands and my favorite is Everyday Minerals (http://www.everydayminerals.com/). It's the only one that when I wear it, I don't feel like I have anything on my face. You can order 'try out' kits for just the shipping. It's a great way to find out your colors inexpensively.

Since switching to mineral makeup because of my rosacea, I will never go back! I tried BE, but wasn't happy with the outcome- the coverage seemed too thick, regardless of how little I put on. I now use Jane Iredale and love it!!! Their loose powder and bronzer are unparallelled.

Also, as an aside... I love the fact that mineral makeup has SPF built right into it. I hated using moisturizers with SPF (I found the consistency too greasy, even oil-free brands), but love that it's a component in mineral makeup. If I'm going to be in the sun for an extended period of time (i.e. other than going to and from work, essentially), the product I always, always, always, use and love is Colorescience, with an SPF of 30. It's the only sun protection that doesn't irritate my rosacea or make me break out.

Mineral makeup has changed my life!

Has anyone ever tried Sheer Cover mineral makeup? I saw this on one of the shopping channels yesterday and wondered if it was any good.

I have tried many different kinds of mineral makeup and am a professional makeup artist...I have found I love glominerals! They have amazing colors, tools, formulas...everything...its just great! 2nd in the running would be Jane Iredale but the formula has a little too much mica (which ends up shiney in photos), has too much moisture in the product (which makes it seep into pores and fine lines after a while), and the colors in eyeshadows are not true to what they look like in the palette and are much more muted when applied. Glo goes on beautifully, lasts through out the day, and doesn't have any fillers (like talc which can be super drying to the skin) like a lot of the less expensive lines do. When buying minerals you really are paying for quality, so the less expensive brands tend to not be as pure and the minerals are milled in a different way making them not sit as smooth on the skin. Hope this helps:)
